S. 22). 1 Siksanbong (Jeju Province Monument No. 62) Siksanbong is a cinder cone of 66 m altitude at the seashore of north-west from Seongsan Ilchulbong. The name of Siksanbong represents a shape of a barley stack. The origin of its name is based on the historical reference that Siksanbong was fully covered with straw thatch to camouflage military provisions and to frighten off the Japanese invaders who frequently attacked the areas near Seongsan-ri. In ancient times, Siksanbong was the only area of low-land primitive flora, such as a warm-temperate evergreen forest and coastal plant, which once grew in the eastern areas of Jeju.
