My diploma is in town planning, and I was teaching both architecture and planning. I am interested in urban architecture and the architecture of urbanism; I am interested in the combination of these rwo. I don't see planning separate from architecture. I am interested in the whole spectrum of scales, berween very detailed, tangible parts of architecture, and the largescale products. I think that form originates in large urban concepts. But at the same time, form is a result of very site-specific considerations.
And then there's the layer of the latest years. Basically it has two main layers. There is the underground city: under all of this city you have another city which is below us. It is 800 years old, and there are huge Crusaders vaults, large spaces, with tremendous history. It's probably part of the first unification of Europe. Imagine! All the kings of Europe came to Jerusalem to conquer the Holy Land. For two years they rode to the Mediterranean, to the Middle East, with the idea, with the vision that this part of the world should be Christian.
