Or, a question more relevant to OUf present purposes, how did memory experiments and theorists think of this relation before 1972?
One possibility of 'explaining' the Warrington-Weiskrantz effect is to assume that their patients' episodic memory is impaired but semantic memory is not, and that the efficient performance on the word-fragment completion test reflects the utilization of information that has been stored in semantic memory.
