There were in all six editions of Simplicissimus during Grimmelshausen’s life. In 1683–84, 1685–99, and 1713 Felssecker’s son and then his grandson published three-volume editions of most of Grimmelshausen’s works, including some that were not written by him. These editions are 1 2 3 referred to as C , C , and C . They present a Simplicissimus text with many additions in both prose and in verse that emphasize the moral message of the novel.
