The results of different armies and different wars have taken their toll on the ancient city’s mighty ruins. If you visited those ruins Ancient Babylon as it looked in 1932. today, you might see bullet holes in walls, ditches dug so soldiers could hide, barbed wire, and more. For the past eight years, however, the Iraqi government and United Nations (UN) agencies have been trying to restore the ancient ruins. The goal is to turn at least part of the ancient city into a cultural center, a place where people from all over the world can come and safely see the once magnificent city.
Surprised by the great tasting food, but in Iraq, it is considered a great honor to be invited over for a meal. Guests are always treated with kindness and respect. This is because hospitality is very important to Middle Eastern cultures, and especially in Arabic and Islamic cultures. In fact, there is an Islamic tradition that guests are allowed to stay with a family for up to three whole days before the host can ask how long the guest plans to stay over!
