It draws on, and integrates, their interpretations to offer a comprehensive and plausible interpretation of “native” efforts to establish and/or circumscribe “foreign” access to resources “natives” consider solely or primarily theirs.

These issues will be addressed later, but for now it is important to recognize that a sense of group position— native or otherwise—only provides its members with a general orientation, not with a script for behavior and beliefs (Blumer 1958: 56).
